Walker & Dunlop Donates $206,000 to Fight Homelessness and Poverty

Bethesda, Maryland – May 18, 2018

Walker & Dunlop, Inc. announced today that it supported LIFT and Community Solutions, two nonprofit organizations focused on combating poverty and homelessness in the United States, through its fundraising efforts in 2017. Over the past three years, Walker & Dunlop has raised over $600,000 for LIFT and Community Solutions, including $206,000 in 2017, through employee donations and company matching.

President of Walker & Dunlop, Howard W. Smith, commented, “We have been focused on supporting non-profits that aim to end homelessness for nearly three decades and are thrilled by the success of our partnerships with LIFT and Community Solutions. LIFT is a national non-profit operating in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, and Washington, D.C. whose mission is to empower families to break the cycle of poverty.

In 2017 alone, with LIFT’s help, our families have managed to achieve an average savings increase of $950 and decrease household debt by an average of 20 percent,” said LIFT CEO and Co-Founder Kirsten Lodal. “Our partnership with Walker & Dunlop is critical in helping us achieve these goals to create real impact in the lives of our families.”

Community Solutions works to end homelessness and the conditions that create it. The organization is currently leading “Built for Zero,” a movement of over 70 communities across the US working to end chronic and veteran homelessness. In roughly three years, those communities have already found permanent homes for more than 90,000 homeless Americans, including more than 30,000 veterans, and nine communities have reached zero for at least one population.

In addition to partnering with LIFT and Community Solutions, the Walker & Dunlop supports various other non-profits focused on curbing homelessness, including Georgetown Ministry Center and So Others Might Eat. Walker & Dunlop also provides company-paid volunteer hours, organizes office volunteer events, and maintains a robust charitable donation matching program.
